EPIDEMIOLOGY
INCIDENCE of STROKE AMONG INPATIENTS:
S.ORSOLA-MALPIGHI HOSPITAL STUDY
- Stroke can occur while the patients are already hospitalized
for other causes.
- From January 1, 1992 to December 31, 1992, 71874 patients
were admitted to the S. Orsola-Malpighi Hospital (Bologna, Italy).
42 patients, admitted for non-cerebrovascular diseases, had a stroke during their hospital
stay.
Overall mortality at 30 days was 38% (n=16).
- Prevalence of risk factor for stroke in inpatients (S.
